Impulses for piano trio
This year's international "Piano Trio Fest" focuses on historically oriented performance practice and its further development through the influences of new music.
This year, the only piano trio festival in the world will feature the following ensembles: the Bern Piano Trio, the Trio Alterna, the Jazz Piano Trio of the Swiss Jazz Ambassadors, the Mendelssohn Trio Berlin, as well as the up-and-coming ensembles Helix Piano Trio and Glenn Gould Piano Trio. The final concert will feature Konstantin Livschitz, Vovka Ashkenazy and Igor Andreevthe artistic director of the festival, will perform as soloists in triple concertos by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and a world premiere each by Oguz Namal and Lautaro Figueroa - both study at the Bern University of the Arts with Xavier Dayer.
Elena Ralli was commissioned by the festival to create the work Portrait written. It will be premiered by Trio Alterna on February 24 in the concert "History meets the present".
For the first time, the festival is organizing a spin-off concert to support young talents starting out in their careers. Piano trios from Europe had until December 20 to apply for the concert on May 27, 2023. A total of 22 young ensembles applied. The result of the pre-selection will be announced at the opening concert on February 5.
