Malta baroque

Three concerts of the Valletta International Baroque Festival in various sacred and secular spaces, palaces, gardens and cliffs invite you to visit from January 23 to 27, 2016. The registration deadline is September 30.

 Since 2013, baroque music fans have been getting their money's worth in Valletta, Malta's capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for two weeks each January. Together with Touriqum Spezialreisen, the Swiss music newspaper is organizing a five-day trip to the island republic from 23 to 27 January 2016.

A British colony until 1964, Malta became a member of the EU on May 1, 2004. In 2017, it will hold the EU presidency together with the United Kingdom, and the following year Valletta will be the European Capital of Culture, together with the United Kingdom.
with the Dutch city of Leeuwarden. These two events have influenced the long-term planning as well as the search for and engagement of internationally and nationally outstanding baroque music specialists since the festival was founded.

The three concerts
The Teatru Manoel, one of the oldest opera houses in the world still performing, will host the ensemble La Serenissima, which specializes in Venetian Baroque, while the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe will perform in St. John's Co-Cathedral and the Valletta Baroque, founded in 2012, in the Church of St. Francis of Assisi
Festival Ensemble.
