The happy role of music

The Romansh word "Rodas" means "wheels" and was chosen as the band's name because everything is in motion and nothing should stand still, not even the music. Singer Corin Curschellas, accordionist Patricia Draeger and cellist Barbara Gisler were a purely live band for five years and now, because they were unable to perform in 2020, they have recorded a CD after all - fortunately.

These are traditional songs in Romansh, some humorous, some melancholy, but also very personal songs in Grisons dialect from the pen of Corin Curschellas, which are thought-provoking. Her poetic lyrics, in their distance from the zeitgeist, have the character of folk songs, are insistent and sometimes politically intelligent, but not with an index finger. The textual content is merely a further bonus to the rich musical arrangement. Corin Curschellas is in top form and sings impressively, grippingly and with great variety. Her voice sounds wonderful in both dialect and Romansh, so that even the Romansh songs are captivating and you can get over the fact that often only the title is understandable, because no translations or content information are provided.

With their fabulous arrangements, Patricia Draeger and Barbara Gisler create diverse and varied works of sound art that are funny, groovy or lyrical, melancholy, but always witty and beguiling and take you on a fantastic journey through infinite musical worlds. Tarantella, tango, musette, vaudeville, jazz, Eastern Europe, Celtic music, the Caribbean and again and again Switzerland: with their small chamber music line-up, the three women - with percussionist Bernd Bechtloff also playing as a guest on some pieces - create an inspiring variety that nevertheless comes across as cohesive and unified thanks to their live-tested precision and joy of playing.
