Small worlds and wonders

In his piano pieces, Baptiste Kunz creates small worlds from simple musical elements.

Anyone who knows Baptiste Kunz will find in him what we often describe as a "life artist". He understands the art of thinking deeply, enjoying, experimenting and producing. Whether in the kitchen, in the ceramics studio, working with texts or, last but not least, on the accordion and piano: the ideas just bubble over and radiate an immediate joy and love of detail that is infectious. This is also the case in the two piano volumes 24 mini cosmos and 24 mini miraclesthat were created in spring 2020.

The short character pieces through all major and minor keys move stylistically between entertaining classical music, jazz and folk music. The teacher and musician Baptiste Kunz succeeds in creating a whole new world with each individual piece. And I am impressed by the brevity of the pieces and the unity of the musical and technical ideas. The clear structure with its simple repetitions and small variations makes it possible to address various basic topics such as harmony, rhythm and playing technique in lessons with pupils. Many rhythmic and melodic motifs, as well as the varied accompaniment figures, are also suitable as a springboard for your own improvisations.
