Solo works from the 21st century
Edition Walhall has published three cello compositions by a very young author.

Cellist Manuel Lipstein, born in 2001, is already making a name for himself as a composer at a young age. Edition Walhall has published three of his compositions for solo cello, written at the age of 17, in an anthology.
But the earth trembles is a two-part capriccio with a rhapsodic introduction and a virtuoso final section. The composer writes: "A barren landscape lies calmly before me - but in truth it trembles violently inside, for it is full of life and movement." Guitarresco is a virtuoso pizzicato study - a homage to the guitar. In Four dream images Lipstein imagines "four musical paintings that capture dreamlike and fairytale fantasies".
The three compositions are "tailor-made" for the cello. Lipstein cleverly combines conventional playing techniques with contemporary sound effects. These solo pieces offer performers rewarding, effective tasks and will not fail to have an effect on the audience. They are available on YouTube in the composer's interpretation:
