"Popular" compensation
A bit of showmanship is allowed. Here in a piece for alto saxophone with piano accompaniment.

Anyone looking for something catchy, rhythmically jazzy and melodically romantic in between saxophone lessons will find it in the Sérénade populaire by Paul Lewis is a pleasure for both teacher and pupil. The moderately difficult piece is easily accessible, musically very varied and doesn't require a keyboard muncher at the piano. Unfortunately, in the Allegro, the Sérénade lapses somewhat into a dialogic sprint between saxophone and piano which, apart from cheerful scale capers, brings few compositional escapades or even surprises: "pop" at its best!
Originally composed for harmonica, there are now versions for clarinet, flute and violin in addition to the arrangement for alto saxophone.
