Impact stuff from the kitchen and cleaning cupboard

Brooms, cans and plastic bottles are used here to get young people grooving.

Excerpt from the magazine cover

The name "drums" actually says it all: you hit stuff. But which "stuff" is not so clear, it doesn't always have to be the drum set. The well-known ensemble Stomp was inspired by the piece Brooms, known as "Besen" in German. Over time, large rhythm compositions were created for the stage with worldwide success. Since then, Stomp has been synonymous with music using everyday objects.

How this idea can be realized in schools (from the age of 12) is shown by Stomping Stuff. Cans, plastic bottles, boxes, pots, brooms - in short: anything can be made to sound. Because every object is actually worth investigating for its acoustic characteristics. Experiment, try things out, invent patterns, practise them and then show them off. Performance! The twelve compositions are all notated in an easily understandable percussion language. The commentaries are also easy to read. They show the individual steps for developing the compositions and describe the percussion techniques used to create the various sounds. Alongside the rhythm lines, the appeal of Stomp lies precisely in this variety of sounds.

The enclosed DVD contains numerous video clips. They show the overall flow of a composition and the individual rhythm patterns for rehearsing. The pieces groove and make you want to play along yourself. So: clear out the broom cupboard and get going!
