A look at the South African music market
As the first report of its kind, "Revenue Streams for Music Creators in South Africa 2022" provides detailed insights into the revenue streams of South African music creators.
Around 3,000 music professionals from various genres took part in the nationwide study conducted by the Music In Africa Foundation. The aim is to provide music professionals with information so that they can make informed professional decisions and improve their income.
One focus is therefore on South Africa's informal music industry, for which hardly any representative figures are available. Among other things, the study looks at income trends before and after the coronavirus pandemic, revenue opportunities and their profitability.
The project is supported by UNESCO's International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) under the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the Siemens Cents4Sense program, the Siemens Stiftung, the Goethe-Institut, the National Arts Council of South Africa and Kaya FM.
