Bachmann succeeds Chassot in the BAK
The Federal Council has appointed Carine Bachmann as Director of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC). She succeeds Isabelle Chassot. Bachmann will take office on February 1, 2022. The Deputy Director, Yves Fischer, will head the FOC on an interim basis.
According to the press release, Carine Bachmann has been head of the City of Geneva's Department of Culture and Digitization since 2011. In this role, she oversees the city's museums, libraries and cultural promotion activities as well as its 1,400 employees.
Carine Bachmann began her professional career as programme manager of the international film and video festival VIPER in Lucerne and as communications officer and project manager in various non-governmental organizations. She was co-founder and director of CIMERA, an organization for development cooperation and conflict prevention in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Carine Bachmann is bilingual French-German. She is 54 years old, married and has three children. Carine Bachmann holds a Master's degree in Social Psychology, Film Studies and International Law from the University of Zurich and a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Economics and Regulatory Law from the Graduate Institute of Public Administration (IDHEAP) at the University of Lausanne.
