Creative industries have reached a significant size
Between 2018 and 2020, an average of 548,000 people worked in the creative industries in Switzerland. This corresponds to twelve percent of all people employed in Switzerland. The sector has reached a significant size.
Around half work directly in the creative industry. The other half work creatively in other sectors. With 150,000 people employed in the creative industries, the canton of Zurich accounts for a quarter (27%) of the Swiss creative industries, followed by the canton of Bern (64,000, 12%) and the canton of Vaud (47,000, 9%).
The largest employer is not the advertising and marketing industry (116,000 people), but the IT and software sector (166,000 people). The figures are based on statistical monitoring by the Zurich Centre for Creative Economies (ZCCE) at ZHdK, which analyzes the latest labor market data from the Federal Statistical Office.
At Switzerland's first Creative Economies Forum on 8/9 September in the Toni-Areal, organized by the ZCCE, experts from culture, business, education and politics, together with students and other interested parties, will discuss the future development and challenges of the creative industries in interactive settings.
