Founded in 2013, Heitere Fahne has already become an integral part of cultural life in the Bern region. Under the roof of the former brewery pub in Wabern (municipality of Köniz), an inclusive open and meeting space has been created. A place where, according to the canton's press release, "culture, theater and gastronomy come together and enrich each other, a place that brings together and involves people with different backgrounds and a wide range of skills".

The Heitere Fahne is run by the Frei_Raum collective. It is open to people with and without disabilities, to people with a migration background, with mental health problems or in difficult social situations, but also to children and young people. At the Heitere Fahne, culture that is accessible to everyone is practiced with great commitment, a lot of passion and, last but not least, an enormous amount of voluntary work.

On the recommendation of the Commission for General Cultural Issues, the Canton of Bern is awarding the 2018 Culture Prize for this important contribution to cultural life and the almost unrestricted participatory approach. The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, 7.30 pm, at the Heitere Fahne, Dorfstrasse 22/24, Wabern.
