By proclaiming 2018 the Year of Cultural Heritage, the Federal Office of Culture aims to draw attention to "the importance of cultural heritage for all areas of social life". Switzerland is thus participating in an initiative adopted by the EU.

Cultural heritage has many facets, writes the Confederation. It is part of our environment, it tells stories, creates identity and is constantly being recreated. Starting with its most visible elements, historical buildings and archaeological sites, 2018 is an opportunity to rediscover cultural heritage and engage in a broad dialog about its value to society.

The Year of Cultural Heritage, under the patronage of Federal Councillor Alain Berset, is to be "a year for everyone": The population is called upon to contribute ideas and participate in shaping the year. For its part, the Confederation will initiate and support a number of projects.

Non-profit organizations have founded a supporting association to coordinate the national communication campaign. In cooperation with the Federal Office of Culture, it is developing an online platform that will bring together all projects relating to the Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. On the website www.kulturerbe2018.ch he is now providing information on the status of preparations and opportunities for participation. The official kick-off for the preparatory activities for the Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
