Heinz Holliger honored with the Schumann Prize

The Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz honors the Swiss composer Heinz Holliger for his artistic life's work with the Robert Schumann Prize for Poetry and Music.

In Heinz Holliger's multifaceted work, music and poetry intersect, the jury explained its decision. He has dealt with works by Paul Celan, Georg Trakl, Nelly Sachs, Samuel Beckett, Robert Walser and Friedrich Hölderlin, among others. The prize is financed by the Strecker Foundation in Mainz and is endowed with 15,000 euros.

The Robert Schumann Prize for Poetry and Music is awarded every two years "to personalities for an outstanding work in the field of music, poetry and music education". Previous winners have been Pierre Boulez, Wolfgang Rihm, Aribert Reimann, Jörg Widmann and Olga Neuwirth.
