New search for an artistic director in Davos
Oliver Schnyder, the current director of the Davos Festival, has decided to hand over the reins at the end of August 2019 after just one edition under his leadership.
The 34th Davos Festival, which will take place from August 3 to August 17, 2019, will be Oliver Schnyder's first and last. "After months of intensive familiarization and artistic planning for the 2019 edition, I have decided to step down as Artistic Director at the end of 2019 after the contractually agreed trial period. I had to realize that a commitment that meets my professional standards is only possible in the long term at the expense of my traditional artistic and educational activities. In order to ensure that my succession can be arranged as soon as possible, I deliberately made my decision as early as possible. I would like to thank our Board of Trustees for the trust they have placed in me and I am very much looking forward to the 2019 festival year," Oliver Schnyder announced.
The Board of Trustees notes this decision with regret. The search for a suitable successor from the 2020 festival onwards will be launched in November by a specially appointed search committee.
Around 70 artists from over 18 countries will come to the 2019 festival under the motto "Einschnitt".
