Young ZKO final concert
How can you get children interested in the exciting world of classical music? Together with music educator Oliver Hauser, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra launched the Young ZKO project around ten years ago. The aim of the Young ZKO is to open the door to the world of classical music for children.
A look behind the scenes of an orchestra and close contact between children and musicians are the pillars of the Young ZKO. Soloist visits in the classroom are just as much a part of this as school class visits to the ZKO building. A particularly popular event is the visiting morning, during which the pupils have the opportunity to get to know both the orchestra and the administration on a guided tour.
The pupils have two years to get to know the world of an orchestra and classical music. In addition to imparting knowledge, the project also plays an important role in personal development. The final concert in particular plays an important role for all participants. Supported by composer Carmen Nuñez and music mediator Oliver Hauser, the children independently develop their final theme, for which they then write the lyrics and design the stage. Even the pieces of music are written by the fifth and sixth graders. At the end of the season, they all perform together with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra on the stage of the ZKO House and look forward to the crowning end of an enriching, intensive and fruitful collaboration.
