Simply practice better!

What happens between two music lessons? With trivs, pupils are well accompanied when practising, playing and learning at home. The free app - in German, French and English - won the anniversary prize in the Good Practice competition.

Sometimes things go really well in a music lesson. The pupil has understood the exercise, the pupil has cracked the fingering. But as soon as they get home, there is a lack of precise feedback and cool playbacks. There is a need for clarification in the next lesson. "We realized that something was missing," says Daniel Brand from the Lyss music school. With a small, agile team, he developed trivs on his own initiative. Teachers can now send the exercises and recorded play-along versions that they have coordinated during the lesson home with their students. What is particularly practical is that trivs is also equipped with a metronome, audio player and scheduling function. This turns the app into a practice companion and helps to make practicing a natural part of everyday life. Daniel Brand sees himself as a coach - he is in constant communication with his students and asks what instructions they need for home: "It's important that they know what they're going to practise at home". Not only pupils and teachers, but also parents have responded very positively to trivs. They can support children better when practicing because they can also hear the exercises in concrete terms thanks to trivs.

The target group of trivs are teachers. Teachers from around 15 municipalities in the cantons of Bern and Lucerne are currently involved. Daniel Brand and his team developed trivs on their own initiative and pro bono - only the operating costs were covered. He says: "We see the anniversary award as official recognition. It supports us in our further development and motivates us a lot!"
