In March, well over 1000 young musicians took part in the Entrada competitions in various Swiss regions. The "Entradas" are the first round of the Classica competition. Whoever wins first prize here is seeded for the final. This year, 330 finalists competed in the final, which was held at the Zurich Conservatory Music School. On Sunday, May 1, 216 prizes were finally awarded and the prizewinners' concert testified to the high standard and versatility of young musicians in Switzerland.

For some years now, the prizewinners have no longer received cash prizes, but instead receive a wide range of support in so-called "follow-ups" (master classes, concerts, scholarships). The professional organization of the SJMW is financially supported by patrons, sponsors and the public sector.

In addition to Classica, the SJMW organizes other competitions: Composition, Jazz&Pop and Freespace.
