PHBern inaugurates a new music building
On Saturday, May 5, 2018, the new music building of the Bern University of Teacher Education (PHBern) will be opened with a celebration at the vonRoll University Center in Bern.
The power station on the vonRoll site in Bern was built in four stages between 1899 and 1910. The two-storey room for installing the transformers with its high windows gives the building a prestigious character. The transformation into a music building for the PHBern is the result of a competition project for the vonRoll campus from 2004. The urban planning concept called for the preservation and conversion of two existing buildings and the addition of two large new buildings.
The PHBern has been training teachers since 2005. After completing their studies, they teach at pre-school level (kindergarten), at elementary school (primary level and lower secondary level), at grammar schools, technical secondary schools and vocational baccalaureate schools and as remedial teachers. With over 2500 students and more than 750 teaching diplomas awarded each year, it is one of the largest universities of teacher education in Switzerland.
