From the coming school year, musically and artistically gifted high school students in Solothurn will now have the opportunity to choose music or visual arts as their main subject. Previously, the special class only had the option of majoring in economics and law. However, this subject was of little benefit to those pupils who were considering the special class due to their outstanding artistic talent.

Young people who are aiming for the Matura and are characterized by above-average sporting achievements or artistic talents can attend the special class "Sport and Culture" at the cantonal school. In contrast to the regular classes, the subject matter of this class is spread over five years instead of four, with the requirements corresponding to the regular Matura course. This modification allows talented students to develop their skills in their respective disciplines in the best possible way.
