Historical-critical Wagner Complete Edition
A research project on a historical-critical complete edition of Richard Wagner's writings is being launched at the University of Würzburg. Over the course of 16 years, the entire legacy of the composer's writings is to be made philologically accessible.
This interdisciplinary research project is the first to examine Richard Wagner's 230 or so texts, comprising a good 4,000 pages, on the basis of all surviving historical textual witnesses.
The aim is to produce a complete, historical-critical edition of the writings with a comprehensive commentary as a hybrid edition. In addition to the conventional print medium, it uses all the possibilities of digital text capture, processing and presentation.
The project is sponsored by the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz and is funded as part of an academy program. It is headed by musicologist Ulrich Konrad at the Institute for Music Research at the University of Würzburg.
