"Dürande Castle" comes to the stage
On May 31 and June 2, Othmar Schoeck's opera "Das Schloss Dürande" can be heard at Bern's Stadttheater. The new version of the libretto is by Francesco Micieli, the musical adaptation of the vocal parts by Mario Venzago. The staged world premiere will take place at the Meininger Staatstheater on March 8, 2019.
The project "Dürande Castle by Othmar Schoeck. Scenarios for an Interpretive Restoration" by the Bern University of the Arts and the Swiss National Science Foundation (2013 to 2016) aimed to "extract this key work of 20th century Swiss music history from its specific historical, political and socio-cultural context and make it accessible again as a cultural asset". The revised version can now be heard in public for the first time in Bern in two concert performances. Discussion panels will accompany the concerts and publications will provide an insight into the revision process.
The scenic premiere of the new version will be staged at the Meininger Staatstheater from 8 March 2019. Musical direction: Philippe Bach; stage direction: Ansgar Haag
