Tomasello GMD of the Mittsächsische Philharmonie

The Italian conductor Attilio Tomasello, who has been Principal Conductor of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra since 2013, will become General Music Director of the Central Saxon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Central Saxon Theater of the cities of Freiberg and Döbeln in Central Saxony from August.

Tomasello was born in Alessandria (Italy) and graduated in piano and composition at the conservatory in his home town. In 2005 he won first prize in the competition for orchestral conductors of the Orchestre Nationale de l'Ile de France. Tomasello was 1st Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and from 2009 1st Kapellmeister at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.

The main venues of the Mittelsächsisches Theater are the municipal theaters in Freiberg and Döbeln as well as a lake stage built in 2007 at the Kriebstein dam. The shareholders of Mittelsächsische Theater und Philharmonie gemeinnützigen GmbH, which was founded in 1993, are the towns of Freiberg and Döbeln and the district of Central Saxony.
