In 2016, in a three-year project co-financed by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI, the life, artistic career and political activities of Irène Schweizer were investigated by jazz journalist Christian Broecking on behalf of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

To coincide with the artist's 80th birthday in June 2021, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Broecking Verlag and the "Friends of Irène Schweizer" association are publishing the English translation of Schweizer's authorized biography. In addition, a research team from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts transcribed a selected solo recording by Irène Schweizer with the aim of explaining the pianist's special style and making it accessible to a wide audience.

Pianist Irène Schweizer is celebrating her 80th birthday this year. Not only has she played a key role in the development of jazz piano playing, she is also a pioneer of the independent jazz and improvisation scenes in Europe and has gained international recognition as a representative of Swiss jazz. Irène Schweizer's activities are closely linked to her political commitment: she is committed to the equality of women in art and society. She stands up for the artistic and economic autonomy of artists. And she fights against discrimination against people based on gender, origin or sexual orientation.
