New acquisitions at the Basel Music Museum
The Basel Music Museum is now exhibiting the Framus bass "Triumph!" by rock legend Teddy Riedo and a hybrid of a precious bassoon and a clarinet with ivory, which was glued into the bassoon in place of the grand piano.
The strange construction is a hybrid of two instruments: a precious 18th century bassoon from the Schlegel family of instrument makers in Basel and an ivory clarinet that was glued to the bassoon in place of the grand piano. A decorative gimmick or a serious attempt to invent new sounds?
For the new season, the museum is also exhibiting a viola d'amore that has been converted into a viola, which first found its way into the collection in 1887 but was withdrawn again in 1906. The new additions are made possible by generous donors whose gifts will enrich the exhibition on music history from now on.
In addition, the Musikmuseum Basel will open a newly furnished music salon, from which music from the newly restored orchestrion, the Hammond organ B3 and the jukebox will be played on a regular basis.
