2nd prize for Caroline Charrière
Works for wind quintet by female composers from Germany, Switzerland and France were awarded prizes in the composition competition organized by Furore Verlag and the Bundeswehr Military Music Centre.
According to a press release from Furore Verlag, the competition for female composers was announced at the end of 2016. The Kassel-based publishing house and the Bundeswehr Military Music Center were looking for a 10-minute work for classical brass quintet of medium difficulty.
The jury (Pauline Boeykens, coach and lecturer for brass instruments, Berlin, Franz-Michael Deimling, composer and member of the board of the Landesverband deutscher Musikschulen in Schleswig-Holstein, Vivienne Olive, composer and musicologist, Astrid Stäber, musicologist and editor at Furore Verlag and Tobias Terhardt, lieutenant colonel and director of the Kassel Army Music Corps) awarded three prizes:
1st prize: Tina Ternes, Germany, for Departure
2nd prize: Caroline Charrière, Switzerland, for Awakening
3rd prize: Aude Clesse, France for Bric à brac
The award-winning works will be premiered on August 29, 2017 during documenta 14 in the Church of St. Elisabeth in Kassel by the brass quintet of the Kassel Army Music Corps under the direction of Sergeant Major Reinhard Meissner and published by Furore Verlag.
