Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn communicates digitally

Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn (TOBS) wants to use YouTube videos to communicate opera, drama and concerts. The Canton of Bern is supporting the project as part of its "kultur.digital - Impulsbeiträge für digitale Kulturvermittlung" competition.

The "kultur.digital" competition was launched in the third quarter of 2016 by the bilingual cultural promotion department of the Office of Culture of the Canton of Bern in collaboration with the Conseil du Jura bernois. The aim of this unique funding accent is to "support digital projects that provide low-threshold, broad access to culture, offer new ways of engaging with culture, encourage independent artistic practice or redefine the relationship between cultural practitioners and the public".

The canton is supporting "Norient - Network for local and global sounds and mediaculture" with CHF 50,000. It is taking various digital measures to "expand its reference function as a platform for global music and media culture". This includes a relaunch of the website and the development of content-focused formats that are distributed, remixed and discussed on social media.

The canton is supporting the TOBS project with 35,000 francs. The project concept is based on "the confident use of the medium of online videos by young people". Forms of expression and genres of YouTube videos established among young people are used to convey the art forms of opera, drama and concerts. The exchange between the audience is also of central importance.

Other supported projects come from the Swiss Alpine Museum, the Antikensammlung Bern, the Neues Museum Biel, the Photoforum PasquArt and the Bieler Fototage as well as the Kunsthaus Langenthal.
