WEF honors Anne-Sophie Mutter
The Davos World Economic Forum (WEF) has honored the German violinist and teacher Anne-Sophie Mutter with a Crystal Award for her support of young musicians.
With this award, the WEF honors initiatives to support young musicians. In 1997, Mutter founded the "Friends of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation", which supports highly talented string players. In 2008, the Munich-based charitable foundation of the same name was established: The aim is to support young, highly talented soloists in the violin, viola, cello and double bass worldwide.
In addition to the enormous sums of money involved in training, financing an adequate string instrument is also a major problem in many cases. Added to this are the corresponding insurance sums and unavoidable travel.
Also honored in Davos were the Colombian singer Shakira, ambassador of the UN Children's Fund Unicef, and the actor Forest Whitaker, who trains young people in several countries as conflict resolvers and peacemakers.
