Jazz in the Europe of the economic miracle
Several Swiss music academies are jointly organizing a conference entitled "Growing Up: Jazz in Europe 1960 -1980". It reflects on the developments in European jazz during two of its most eventful decades.
Central themes are the emancipation of jazz from its American role models, the pluralism of scenes and styles, instrumentalization during the Cold War in the West and East, gender issues, the professionalization of education, but also the search for the "Swiss" in Swiss jazz.
In addition to the lectures, there will be concert lectures, workshop concerts by students and concerts with, among others, the DKSJ All-Star Band (an ensemble with students from all Swiss jazz departments) and with Irène Schweizer and Pierre Favre.
The conference is organized in collaboration with the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) and the Haute Ecole de Musique Lausanne (HEMU).
