App for "A symphony for Lucerne" available

Lucerne Festival has launched a special project with the American composer Tod Machover under the label "A Symphony for Lucerne" - as of today, a specially developed "Listen Lucerne" app is available in the App Store, with which smartphone owners can become active and help compose.

The people of Lucerne are invited to collect sounds, noises and background information to help Tod Machover compose a sonic portrait of Lucerne - the symphony will then be premiered on September 5, 2015 with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra and Matthias Pintscher as part of Lucerne Festival im Sommer.

The free app offers various functions: Lucerne sound collectors can record sounds that they associate with the typical sounds of Lucerne, for example cowbells, water noises, snatches of conversation and music. At the same time, a photo of the recording location can be saved with the sound, and geotagging is used to mark where in Lucerne the sound collector was active.

With one click, all the information is then sent to Tod Machover and his team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, who will publish this information on the project's website at a later date.
