Brönnimann conducts Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto
The Swiss conductor Baldur Brönnimann, who works primarily abroad, will become the director of the Portuguese Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música from January 2015. He succeeds Christoph König in this position.
Brönnimann studied at the Academy of Music in Basel and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He is also a guest lecturer in conducting in Manchester. He maintains a close relationship with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, which he conducts at least once a year and with which he has developed a wide-ranging repertoire with soloists such as Midori and Brett Dean; and he recently celebrated his successful debut as conductor of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Until December 2012 he was musical director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia in Bogotá. In 2011 he was appointed artistic director of the Norwegian contemporary music ensemble BIT20.
