Takahiro Sakuma wins the FIMS composition competition
At the 12th composition competition of the International Festival of Sacred Music (FIMS) in Fribourg, the Japanese composer Takahiro Sakuma was awarded a prize, while the Swiss composer Bo Wiget and the Japanese composer Isamu Tachihara received special mentions.
The jury was chaired by Thüring Bräm (CH) and included Dieter Ammann (CH), Philippe Ferro (F), Jean-Pierre Chollet (CH) and Akemi Naito (Japan/USA). On November 24, the jury selected the best works from 47 compositions for wind instruments. The prize of CHF 10,000 went to 41-year-old Japanese composer Takahiro Sakuma for his work Asteroid Belt. The play will be performed as part of the 15. FIMS premiered in Fribourg on July 6, 2014 by the HEMU wind orchestra under the direction of Philippe Ferro.
The following works received a "special mention" (honorable mention): A Prayer XXI" by the Japanese artist Isamu Tachihara and Odem from Bo Wigetthe cellist, composer, performer and director, who was born in Wattwil in 1971 and now lives in Berlin.
