The Bernese harpsichordist, conductor and composer Jörg Ewald Dähler has died at the age of 85, according to a statement from his family in the Bernese daily newspaper Der Bund.
Jörg Ewald Dähler was born in Langnau im Emmental as the son of a pastor and attended the Hofwil Teachers' College. He received his musical training at the Bern Conservatory and the Freiburg im Breisgau University of Music.
Dähler taught basso continuo, chamber music and choral conducting at the Bern Conservatory and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He has also appeared as a guest conductor and soloist in Europe and Asia. Bern honored him with the Culture Prize of the Canton of Bern and the External Medal of the Burgergemeinde Bern.
