Rubebe, rubechette e rubecone

The rabab was not only an extremely popular Moorish instrument, but also spread throughout the entire Mediterranean region. This instrument, which later gave rise to the viola da gamba, shaped the sound of Mediterranean music in the 14th and 15th centuries. Using reconstructed instruments, the Ensemble Arcimboldo takes us into this world, a world that has been little described by musicologists, and contrasts this sensual music with contemporary compositions by the Greek Elena Ralli and the Franco-Argentinian Abril Padilla.
