Jazz in the art museum - Mareille Merck

Jazz guitarist and composer Mareille Merck performs in the middle of the exhibition Bīngfēng by Rebekka Steiger at the Kunstmuseum Thun. Born on the Baltic island of Rügen and living in Zurich, the musician is one of the most exciting voices in contemporary jazz. Her solo program combines virtuoso guitar playing with an innovative approach to sound space, atmosphere and contrasts. She creatively uses techniques such as harmonics, open strings or fingerstyle and playfully crosses genre boundaries.

Like Steiger's paintings, which fascinate with dynamic brushstrokes and an ambivalence between movement and static, Merck's compositions also create atmospheric soundscapes that hint at stories without telling them in full. The concert promises a unique interplay of visual and auditory art - an encounter that invites you to dream, marvel and immerse yourself.
