Daniel Hope & Sebastian Bohren
"Concerto Grosso": A reunion with the two violin virtuosos
"The harmonies are so pure, so rich and agreeable, the voices are so clear, ingenious and judiciously arranged, and the effect of the whole, by a large orchestra, is so majestic, that they exclude all criticism and make us forget that there is any other music of the same kind." These words were written by the English music scholar Charles Burney at the end of the 18th century about the concerti grossi by Arcangelo Corelli. The composer and violin virtuoso Corelli is also regarded as the father of this special genre. Daniel Hope and Sebastian Bohren dedicate an entire concert evening to this dynamic concert form and present works by Corelli, Vivaldi and the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz. A special highlight is the world premiere by Swiss composer Richard Dubugnon, who was commissioned by the orchestra to write a composition in the style of the concerto grosso.
