Struggle for Toggenburg sound house

After the St. Gallen parliament rejected the first project for a Toggenburg sound house, the initiators revised and slimmed it down. Now the cantonal government has expressed a positive opinion of the modified version.

The government continues to support the existing concept of the Klanghaus Toggenburg. However, it expects the canton's annual operating contributions to be reduced from CHF 325,000 to a maximum of CHF 250,000. The cantonal share of the investment costs is also to be reduced. On the one hand, these are to be reduced by CHF 1 million from CHF 24.3 million compared to the Cantonal Council's message. On the other hand, the Klangwelt Toggenburg Foundation is to generate additional third-party funds.

The government believes that integrating the Klanghaus into an overall thematic and geographical concept with the aim of promoting and positioning the region as a sound destination is a positive development of the project.

The government is awaiting the results of the work of the Klangwelt Toggenburg Foundation by the end of the second quarter of 2018. It will then make an assessment and decide whether to resubmit a Klanghaus proposal to the Cantonal Council.
