Solothurn sponsorship awards for Hänggi and Herger

The Board of Trustees for Cultural Promotion of the Canton of Solothurn has awarded sponsorship prizes worth CHF 15,000 each for the seventh time on behalf of the cantonal government. In the music category, they go to the Breitenbach conductor Sarah Hänggi and the Bolken singer Eve Herger.

Sarah Hänggi studied choral conducting and school music at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She has worked as a school musician at Laufental-Thierstein grammar school since 2013 and conducts several choirs. Together with Lisa Appenzeller, she is the musical director of the Intercantonal Male Choir.

Born in Solothurn, mezzo-soprano Eva Herger completed her Master of Arts in Performance and Music Education at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in classical singing. In addition to numerous staged productions, she can regularly be heard in ensembles, as a soloist in concerts, with the Philomenam quartet or with her duo Saphira. She also teaches classical singing at the Biberist and Rontal music schools and leads the basic course of the Solothurn girls' choir.

The Cantonal Board of Trustees received a total of 55 applications for the 2018 sponsorship awards and studio grants. 37 artists applied for a sponsorship award in one of the six disciplines - visual arts and architecture, music, literature, photography and film, theater and dance as well as cultural mediation/cultural exchange. The Board of Trustees for Cultural Promotion has selected eleven sponsorship awards from the applications. These are endowed with CHF 15,000 each.
