Planning security for the event industry

The Federal Council has set out the conditions under which the cantons will be able to authorize major events from summer 2021, even if it is not yet clear whether the epidemiological situation allows them to be held.

With the increase in vaccinations and depending on the epidemiological situation, major events could be possible again in Switzerland from summer 2021. The Federal Council is expected to decide when and under what conditions in the second half of June. However, because major events require longer preparations, the Federal Council wants to give the organizers a certain degree of planning certainty as early as possible and help the cantons make a decision.

In order to support the organization of events of supracantonal importance, Parliament introduced a "protective shield" for the event industry in the 2021 spring session. This means that public events can be approved even before it is clear whether the epidemiological situation allows them to be held. The federal government and cantons will contribute to the uncovered costs of events that have to be canceled or postponed due to the epidemiological situation.
