In the Swiss Conference of Music Universities (KMHS) is an association of recognized music universities in Switzerland. Currently, these are the FHNW University of Music, the Bern University of the Arts, the Haute école de Musique de Genève, the Haute école de Musique de Lausanne, the Scuola Universitaria di Musica Lugano, the Lucerne University of Music, the Zurich University of the Arts and the Kalaidos University of Music.
The aim of the KMHS is to promote professional music education and to coordinate it nationally. It is also committed to the broad recognition of university diplomas and defines corresponding quality standards. The KMHS maintains contact with professional music organizations in Switzerland, takes a stand on cultural and educational policy issues and promotes the entire stylistic breadth of music and music education.
Around 3,500 students are currently enrolled in Bachelor's or Master's degree programs at Swiss music universities, with many more attending the many additional continuing education courses. The Bachelor's and Master's degree courses offered by KMHS members cover a broad stylistic (classical, jazz, popular music, opera, media art, theory, film music, folk music, etc.) and professional spectrum (concert, solo, orchestra, instrumental/vocal pedagogy, school music, basic musical training, rhythmics, conducting, church music, sound engineer, etc.). The members of the KMHS develop comprehensive artistic and scientific research activities, which focus on practical musical and music education issues. The KMHS is networked nationally and internationally with various sister organizations.
