Canton Aargau slightly modifies Curriculum21
From summer 2020, primary school lessons in the canton of Aargau will be based on the new Aargau curriculum, based on Curriculum 21. The cantonal government has made additions and adjustments to music, among other things, "in order to be able to take Aargau's special features into account in a binding manner".
According to the canton's press release, the primary music school will continue to take place in the 1st and 2nd primary school classes as a special feature of Aargau. Together with the music lessons at elementary school and upper school as well as the elective subject "Choir" at upper school and the voluntary instrumental lessons at music schools, the canton of Aargau offers "a comprehensive, varied range of musical education that is above average in comparison to the rest of German-speaking Switzerland".
Pupils will also attend the subject "Textile and technical design" for two lessons a week from Year 1 of elementary school.
