Thomas Blunt becomes first conductor in Bern
The British conductor Thomas Blunt will become Principal Conductor at the Konzert Theater Bern from the 2014/15 season. He succeeds Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, who is moving to the Salzburg State Theater.
Blunt, who has already conducted Strauss' Ariadne on Naxos has been able to convince the jury, the current season will include Mozart's The Magic Flute (premiere November 23, 2014), writes Konzert Theater Bern.
British-born Thomas Blunt studied at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music in London. From 2006 to 2009, he was choirmaster at the Glyndebourne Festival. He also made his conducting debut there with L' Elisire d' amore (2007); this was followed by Falstaff (2009) and La Cenerentola (2010). During this time he assisted the music director Vladimir Jurowski.
Recent engagements have taken the Briton to the Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg (2013), and the St. Endellion Festival (2014). In summer 2015, Blunt will perform Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Longborough Festival Opera.
