Currently General Music Director in Bremen and Principal Guest Conductor of the German Chamber Orchestra Berlin, the German conductor will begin his artistic collaboration with the OSI on the occasion of the inauguration of the prestigious concert and theater hall LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) in the new cultural center of the city of Lugano.

The first joint program focus will be dedicated to the symphonies of Johannes Brahms, of which Markus Poschner and the OSI will give a new, chamber music interpretation, in keeping with the special characteristics of the orchestra, which combines Swiss precision with Italian brilliance. "With this repertoire in particular, our own 'OSI perspective' promises to uncover completely new and unheard facets that were already fully part of the composer's chamber music imagination and yet have far too often gone unnoticed."

Founded in the 1930s within the nascent Radio of Italian-speaking Switzerland (RSI), the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana can look back on a long history alongside famous musical personalities such as Ansermet, Stravinsky, Stokowski, Celibidache and Scherchen, as well as composers such as Mascagni, R. Strauss, Honegger, Milhaud, Martin, Hindemith and, more recently, Berio, Henze and Penderecki. As a protagonist of the RSI concert seasons, the OSI has been involved in the Settimane Musicali of Ascona, the Lugano Festival and the Progetto Martha Argerich from the very beginning.
